Beacon Printing company in Waldorf, Maryland, has long been committed to managing health, safety and environmental matters as an integral part of our business. Quite frankly Beacon Printing was GREEN before green was the buzz word. We continue to do so by adhering to the following policies:
COMPLIANCE
We will always comply with applicable environmental and worker safety laws and regulations. Compliance will continue to be a key ingredient in the training, performance reviews and incentives of all employees.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
We will continue to enforce our stringent recycling program. Beacon Printing is proud to encourage recycling in every aspect of our company. We not only recycle paper as a standard practice but go several steps further and recycle all of our plates, plastics, cans and cardboard just to name a few. As an incentive for employees to recycle Beacon Printing puts any income generated by recycling into the company profit sharing annually.
We have currently applied for a chain of custody audit by an independent auditor. Upon completion of that audit Beacon Printing will be a certified (FSC) Forest Stewardship Council and (SFI) Sustainable Forestry Initiative supplier. These certifications are expected to be complete by January 2008.
We will continue to use ink suppliers that are basing inks with soy, vegetable oil or other non-petroleum basses. We are and will remain committed to environmentally friendly inks and papers for color printing.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
We will continue to seek opportunities to improve our environmental performance. An example of our recent improvement is using lasers for imaging direct to plate. This eliminates the chemicals required for developing film which we no longer use. We continue to eliminate as many chemicals in house as possible and encourage environmentally safe cleaners.
